Igneus Classico wood fired pizza oven

3 Reasons Why the Igneus Classico Should Be Your Next Oven

Whether you’re looking for your very first pizza oven, upgrading from your current pizza oven, or adding a wood fired option to your set-up, we’re firm believers that the Igneus Classico should, at the very least, be on your shortlist. It’s our bestselling oven, our hero product, and an ultimate powerhouse of wood fired cooking. Handmade in Portugal, designed for serious home cooks, it combines the three main pillars of quality, performance, and style. So, without further ado, lets dive in and look at the three reasons why the Igneus Classico should be at the top of your list when choosing your next pizza oven.

Reason 1: Outstanding Cooking Performance

When it comes to wood-fired cooking, performance is everything. You need consistent, efficient heat so you can cook with confidence every time you fire up. The Igneus Classico doesn’t disappoint in this area, reaching temperatures of over 450°C in as little as 15 minutes, owing to the quality of the insulation deep within the oven.

Inside the oven, the spacious 600x600mm cooking area allows enough space to cook either two 12″ pizzas or two roasting trays. This makes the Classico an incredibly versatile pizza oven, where you can cook not just amazing restaurant-quality pizza, but also bake bread, roast meat or fish and make the best gnarly roasted vegetables you’ll ever taste. Pair it with essential pizza peels & accessories to make the cooking process even smoother.

We mentioned efficiency, and this is a key factor when it comes to heat retention. Thanks to the firebrick base and excellent insulation, the Classico holds its temperature without the constant need for more wood, making it ideal for longer cooking sessions and dishes that require longer, slower cooking times. The Classico comes with a built-in temperature gauge as standard, making it easy to control the oven’s temperature and limit guesswork.

Reason 2: Robust Design & Build Quality

Going hand in hand with cooking performance comes design and build quality. Not only has the Classico been designed to perform like a restaurant pizza oven, but it’s also built with longevity in mind too. It features a durable outer shell constructed from stainless steel and powder-coated aluminium, ensuring it can withstand regular use as well as whatever the typical British weather throws at it, meaning you can fire it up all year round!

Weighing in at 45kg with the firebricks in place, the Classico is solid and stable once set up. However, if you ever need to move it around your garden, removing the firebricks reduces the weight to around 20 kg, making repositioning perfectly manageable. It must be said here that the Classico isn’t a portable oven per se, so if that’s what you’re looking for the Igneus Bambino offers a middle ground between the super lightweight Igneus Minimo and the Classico.

To make your oven a true garden centrepiece, you can also add a dedicated oven stand or keep it protected year-round with a fitted cover.

Reason 3: The Wood-Fired Cooking Experience

One of the greatest elements for the Igneus Classico is the authentic cooking experience it creates, that simply cannot be matched with a gas pizza oven. The wood fire imparts an amazing flavour to your food, not just pizzas, but everything you cook in the Classico. It also adds a level of romance and enjoyment to the cooking experience, which although takes more time and effort than ‘plug and play’ gas pizza ovens, in our view it’s more than worth it.

To people deciding whether to buy a wood fired or gas fired pizza oven, we always say it’s as much about the journey as it is about the result. From building and nurturing the fire, through to tending to the flames and keeping a consistent burn, it’s a much more hands-on cooking experience than cooking with gas. For the best results, we recommend using quality kiln-dried logs & kindling to achieve the perfect burn.

It also opens up the possibility of cooking dishes that require much lower temperatures. Think low and slow pulled pork shoulder, sumptuous casseroles and delicate baked fish. Gas pizza ovens simply don’t go low enough to achieve this style of cookery. With wood, you can cook on embers and really maximise the range of heat the oven delivers.
