Anyone who thinks wood-fired pizza is limited to the confines of a back garden, we’ve got news for you… It’s not! One of the best things about the Igneus range of pizza ovens is that we have ovens of all sizes and weights, right the way from the mighty Minimo, through to the professional grade Pro 750. Of course, we’re not suggesting you lug the 750 in the back of the car and take it on your travels. But the Igneus Minimo and Bambino are perfect for taking on your adventures away from home. So, whether it’s a camping trip, a day at the beach, a road trip, or even a festival, we’ve got you covered with some top tips. Let’s dive in.
Choose the Right Pizza Oven
The first step is choosing the right oven. You need to look for compact, lightweight pizza ovens that are easy to pack up and carry, as well as being quick and easy to set up once in situ. The Igneus Minimo is the obvious choice for this, especially if you envisage using the oven at the beach or on a camping trip for example. Weighing in at just 15kg, it’s super easy to pick up and move. The Minimo also has the added benefit of having a cover that doubles up as a carry case with a strap for easy transportation.
If you want something with a little more cooking space but still travel-friendly, the Igneus Bambino is a great option, however. This oven lends itself more to travelling to a holiday home or second home, for example, once or twice per year, as it weighs in at 37kg, dropping to 17kg with the firebricks removed.

Prepping Before You Travel
When planning to travel with a pizza oven, it’s vital to put in a little prep work prior. You’d be forgiven for using pre-portioned, shop-bought dough here, but if you’re still planning on making your own from scratch, make sure you ball it before you travel and store it in a cool box in individual proofing containers like these ones from Babadoh. Put them in a cool box for travel to prevent the dough from overproofing.
If you’re planning on setting up somewhere without a proper kitchen, we’d recommend slicing your pizza toppings before you go. This will make your life so much easier on location. Pack up your sauce in leak-proof containers or take a tin of good-quality sauce to open when you’re there. Don’t forget the basics: flour for stretching, oil for drizzling, and some pre-grated cheese to save time and mess.
Always pre-pack kindling and logs before you set off. Take slightly more than what you think you’ll need, just in case!

Packing & Transport Tips
It’s important to think of safety first. Always make sure the oven is completely cool before lifting and transporting. If you don’t have a carry case, we recommend wrapping it in a thick blanket to prevent it from damage during transit. To prevent getting any soot marks in your car, it’s a good idea to put a flattened cardboard box or dust sheet underneath the oven.
Setup & Safety
When you get to the location you want to set up, always choose a flat, stable place, and never set up on grass or bark as this can pose a fire risk and affect stability. A foldaway stand or heatproof table works best. If you’re setting up at the beach or on a camping trip, there’s likely to be children and pets running around, so it’s a good idea to set up somewhere slightly away from the main action! Avoid cooking in high winds and position the oven away from flammable materials such as tents.
So, Where to Take Your Pizza Oven?
We’ve already mentioned a few of the usual suspects where people tend to take their Igneus Pizza Ovens. One of the best things about a portable pizza oven is the freedom to enjoy freshly made pizza almost anywhere. Here’s our suggestions;
- Holiday Homes and Second Homes
- Airbnb’s (check terms and conditions)
- Garden Parties
- Campsites
- Picnic Areas (check if allowed in the specific area)
- Beach
- Festivals (check terms and conditions)
- Local Beauty Spots
- At the side of the road! (anywhere with a view helps)
